Haiku Salut ‘Lamp Show’

31 Aug

We have twice previously put on the spellbinding Haiku Salut but this occasion promises to be even more special as they finally bring their lamp show to Glasgow and the grand surroundings of Sloans Ballroom.

Vintage household lamps surround the band and make up a light orchestra. They are triggered by the music: flashing, fading and flickering along to Haiku Salut’s magical orchestral soundscapes. It’s “like watching electronica come to life”.

Haiku Salut’s 2nd album “Etch and Etch Deep” has just been released on How Does It Feel To Be Loved and has been receiving extensive play on 6music and rave reviews across the board with 4 stars from Uncut, Mojo, NME and The Guardian.

“The ten wordless songs here push on from the folksy beauty of 2013’s debut Tricolore, merging textures and time signatures with melliferous melodies that shift almost imperceptibly; the waltz that emerges during Bleak And Beautiful (All Things) is almost as perfect as the vocal harmonies that embolden Hearts Not Parts’ warm electronic delirium, like early morning sunbeams bursting through the gap between curtains. This is no mere soundtrack, it’s an imaginary world: to dwell there even briefly is a uniquely spiritual experience. ” – The Skinny

Support comes from Chrissy Barnacle and Citizen Bravo.

According to her Facebook page Chrissy is a human and story-teller hailing from the grimey shores of the clyde who writes spiked and honest nylon-stringed folk, about, among other things; hazelnuts, cannibal rats and the impossibility of love.

Chrissy has been a bewitching presence on each of the occasions she has played for us possibly as a result the constant tours she seems to make across the UK with the likes of Martha and Colour Me Wednesday.

Citizen Bravo is the project of Matt Brennan, a Canadian now residing in Glasgow and a former member of Zoey Van Goey.

Matt plays a contraption made of a suitcase, scrap metal, a skateboard and various instruments but none of that masks his ear for a great tune and witty lyrics.

This will be the only Citizen Bravo show of the year and Matt will be playing brand new material from his forthcoming album.
